Ottawa Junior Jazz Band
(Mandar Gumaste, director)

The Ottawa Junior Jazz Band (OJJB) is an 18 piece big band consisting of grade 8, 9 and 10 students from the Ottawa Region. The band was established in September 2001 to provide a platform for students to further expand upon their musical experiences from middle school, and promote an interest in big band music. OJJB has been awarded the gold standard for the past four years at the Capital Region Music Festival and was awarded the gold standard at Musicfest Nationals in 2006. The band has also been featured at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival in 2002, 2003 and 2005. The band just recently held it’s first ever feature concert with trombonist Mark Ferguson joining them on stage at the National Arts Centre. Entry to the band is based on an audition process held yearly in the month of June. For more information, visit our website at http://ojjb.com.

Nepean All-City Jazz Band

Comprising 18 students from the greater Ottawa region, the Nepean All-City Jazz Band has earned Musicfest National Gold Awards in each of the past 19 years. They are 4-time recipients of the biennially-awarded CMEA/MIAC Don Wright Award for Excellence in Canadian Jazz, and were honoured with the "The Jazz Report" magazine's 1995 award for Canadian Secondary Jazz Ensemble of the Year. Featured at the 2005 Ottawa International Jazz Festival and the 2005 Governor General’s Summer Concert Series at Rideau Hall, NACJB has performed also for conventions of the OMEA, CMEA and IAJE. NACJB has performed with jazz artists Guido Basso, Pat LaBarbera, Denny Christianson, John Nugent, Jeff Jarvis, Steve McDade, Bob Mintzer, Alex Dean, Alastair Kay, Campbell Ryga, Chase Sanborn, Mike Tomaro, and Randy Brecker.
